Wednesday was warm and very wet. We are into the second half of the qualifying stage and still 4 places adrift of the important 4th spot.
The tournament website seems to have a glitch at the moment. Results and scorecards are available but the hands are not appearing. Hopefully this will get sorted.
Match 1 Saudi Arabia
A team that we would hope to beat.
The scorecard.
Final result: Australia 10 – Saudi Arabia 24, 6.04 VPs. A very flat match decided largely by one vulnerable game decision. Not the result we needed so just playing for a position now.
Match 2 Singapore
Another team that we should beat.
The scorecard.
Final result: Australia 43 – Singapore 36, 12.16 VPs. A very swingy match with some interesting hands. We could have done better at both tables but then so could they!
Match 3 Japan
A solid team to finish with.
The scorecard.
Final result: Australia 13 – Japan 35, 4.34 VPs. A disappointing end to a poor tournament for the team.
End of day 4 and the end of the qualifying phase. 8th out of 15.
Tomorrow is the semi-finals of the four categories in the teams and the pairs championship starts for all the rest of the participants.
Other Australian teams:
In the Mixed Australia A made a great comeback from the bottom of the rankings in the middle of the event to get up to fourth place and a place in the semis.
In the Seniors Australia finished 2nd and earned a spot in the next stage.
Final results for all the categories are here.
Good luck to both teams!
